Source and Select
We are a small family company based in Northumberland that hand selects only the finest, responsibly sourced pieces of wood from around the UK. The process of choosing the correct wood is a creative one, with the form of the tree and the shape of the cut wood inspiring the final design.
Seasoning
Carried out to minimise significant movement in the product once manufacture has taken place.
When cut into blanks our stock is carefully stacked and stored for a number of years. Seasoning in this manner imparts a slow air dry that gradually reduces moisture levels and promotes the gentle shape settlement of each piece. Kiln drying can also be used to drive moisture levels lower still.
Make
Once seasoned the blanks go through an intensive transformation where we tease out the natural beauty of the features and grain of each piece. During this process the large surfaces are levelled, sanded with progressively finer grits, then oiled to add depth to their appearance. Edges are cleaned and tidied but deliberately left as natural as possible to give a final product that owners will enjoy for years to come
